About Us

ShakespeareanTranslator.com is an independent project with a simple mission: make Shakespeare’s language — and the history of English itself — accessible to everyone.

Shakespeare wrote for ordinary playgoers, not scholars. Yet four centuries of language change have put his words behind glass for many readers. We build free tools that break that glass: a two-way translator between modern English and Shakespearean-style English, translators for earlier stages of the language such as Old English, Elizabethan English and Early Modern English, word-by-word explanations, and playful learning tools like our Shakespearean insult generator.

What we believe:

  • Free means free. Every tool on this site works without signup, without accounts, and without usage limits. Your translations run instantly in your own browser.
  • Honesty about sources. This site clearly separates three kinds of text: Shakespeare’s own public-domain writing (always quoted with its source), our original modern-English explanations, and new Shakespeare-inspired writing generated by our tools. We never present generated text as Shakespeare’s words.
  • Original content, real standards. Everything here is written fresh for this site. We publish no fake reviews, no invented statistics, no fabricated testimonials or awards. If we state a historical fact, we aim to get it right — and we welcome corrections.
  • Depth over gimmicks. A translator is only as good as its dictionary. We continuously expand our word-hoards, phrase coverage, and style options, and we are open about each tool’s limits.

This is a living project. New translators, guides to the plays and sonnets, and learning resources are added regularly. If you spot an error, have a suggestion, or want a feature, please contact us at shakespeareantranslator@gmail.com — reader corrections genuinely improve the site.
